Reykjavík Culture Walks App

You can take guided walks at your own convenience by downloading our free app, Reykjavík Culture Walks. This will allow you to take a guided walk, in part or whole, whenever you please. These walks introduce different writers and books past and present – Saga literature, Halldór Laxness, Sjón and many others. There are four walks in English, one in German, two in Spanish and four in Icelandic.

You can download the Reykjavík Culture Walks app free for Android or iPhone. Once you have downloaded the app, you can choose to download all walks onto your phone or just the walk or walks of your choice.

The foreign language walks are:

In English:

A Guided Walking Tour in English

Literary Walk

Reykjavík City Library has offered literary walking tours, mainly in downtown Reykjavík, since 2003. The goal is first and foremost to promote Icelandic literature in an original and fun way, but also to show the city as a literary site in different times and to cast a new light on our daily surroundings. Currently,  the guided tour Dark Deeds in Reykjavik, which is free of charge, is on every Thursday at 3 pm in June, July and August. No booking is needed, you simply show up at the City Library in Tryggvagata 15, 1st floor. This walk can also be booked for groups for a fee throughout the year.

Literary Retreats – Readings on City Benches

Reykjavik City of Literature Literary Retreats

Selected city benches in Reykjavík have become literary retreats. Travellers in the city can now enjoy listening to readings from Icelandic literature by scanning a QR-code, placed on several city benches, with a smart-phone. The readings are in English and Icelandic and are hosted on our mobile website.

You can also browse through our Literary Map to locate bookstores, libraries, culture houses and other literary places of interest.
