Reykjavík is put together of words and stories of its inhabitants. Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature wants to capture these words by collecting stories from the people of Reykjavík on a website: memories, moments, poems or thoughts – one word or many. People can also submit photographs or drawings with words attached.

To launch this program, Jón Gnarr, Mayor of Reykjavík, and Reykjavík authors wrote the first words with chalk on the city‘s pavements outside Reykjavík City Library branches on Saturday, September 10th 2011. Free writing workshops for all ages followed inside the libraries.

This project was done in cooperation with the website Urb.is, which has continued collecting stories from locals and visitors about the city of Reykjavík.
