For the fourth year in a row, a group of poets will read poetry in Reykjavík from dawn to dusk on the first day of the year. As before, the reading takes place in Gröndal's House, but because of Covid-19 the house will not be open to guests this time. Instead, the readings will be streamed online on the Reykjavík City of Literature's Facebook site.
The event is organized by a group of poets in cooperation with and with support from the Reykjavík UNESCO City of Literature.
The reading will start at 10 am local time and ends at 5 pm.
The poets are local except for one guest from abroad, Canadian poet Anne Carson.
Among other poets are Kristín Ómarsdóttir, Brynjar Jóhannesson, Dagur Hjartarson, Gerður Kristný, Ásdís Óladóttir, Hermann Stefánsson, Soffía Bjarnadóttir, María Ramos, Halla Þórlaug Óskarsdóttir, Guðrún Hannesdóttir , Anton Helgi Jónsson, Sigrún Björnsdóttir, Fríða Ísberg, Brynja Hjálmsdóttir, Ásta Fanney Sigurðardóttir, Björk Þorgrímsdóttir, Arndís Þórarinsdóttir, Sölvi Björn Sigurðsson, Sigurlín Bjarney Gísladóttir, Magnús Sigurðsson, Bergþóra Snæbjörnsdóttir and Ragnar Helgi Ólafsson.
The readings will be in Icelandic, except for Anne Carson's reading.
